1 in 3 Probes in Clinical Use Defective
Newly published original research has shown that more than 1 in 3 Probes in clinical use are potentially defective.
‘A multicentre survey of the condition of ultrasound probes’ by N Dudley and D Woolley is featured in the lasted edition of ‘Ultrasound’, the British Medical Ultrasound Society journal.
The survey covered 12 sites in the UK, and assessed the condition of 219 probes; results showing that 13% of probes were defective and required immediate removal from use, and another 25% had defects which required further action.
The simple tests deployed in the survey demonstrate that over 90% of probe faults can easily be identified, and assist in compliance with regulations, national standards and professional guidelines; as well as reducing risk to patients.
